WWF published a report titled “The Biodiversity Data Puzzle: Exploring Geospatial Approaches to Gain Improved ‘Biodiversity’ Insight for Financial Sector Applications and The Pressing Need to Catalyze Efforts”. It describes the need for a data commons that “unifies a wide range of biodiversity-related data to make it more accessible and useful", highlighting the OS-Climate’s Data Commons as a comparable model. The report contains a section about the OS-Climate Data Commons authored by Vincent Caldeira, Red Hat CTO for APAC and CTO of the OS-C Data Commons.

OS-C is building a technical foundation of open source tools to organize and make available climate and ESG data. But there is a fundamental and insidious obstacle in the way: trustworthy climate ESG data is exceedingly difficult to find, consume, share, and govern. To overcome this obstacle OS-C is on a journey to adopt “Data Mesh” principles.
