OS-Climate Partners on the Sustainable Africa Initiative

The Sustainable Africa Initiative (SAI) aims to address the climate risk related challenges faced by African nations as they seek to accelerate economic growth while transitioning their economies to a Low Carbon World.  SAI is founded by the Linux Foundation’s OS-Climate, the Climate Risk Research Foundation, and Generation Humanity, in partnership with Sustainable Solutions for Green Growth (Nigeria) and Green Energy Mission Africa (Nigeria).

We are a consortium of climate scientists, sustainability advocates, university students, businesses, financial institutions, and NGOs who are committed to developing climate change solutions. SAI’s goal is to provide Africans with the data, tools, models, mentorship, and infrastructure needed to assess potential impacts from climate change and develop adaptation plans.

One of SAI’s core activities is local collaboration and outreach through the Climate Risk Research Challenge project.  Our first Challenge involves students from nine leading universities in Nigeria and offers $10,000 in grants to the top three individuals or teams. With the support of OS-Climate’s members & partners, including Amazon, LSEG, UN PRI, Scientific Corporation, and others, Nigerians will analyze the impacts of climate change on the agriculture sector and specific crops in their communities.
